COMMUNITY

Come with us to a charming community in southeastern North Carolina known as Elizabethtown and White Lake.   Historic Elizabethtown and crystal clear White Lake offer you an unhurried, friendly life-style that make it an ideal place to spend a vacation, a season, or a lifetime!

Bladen County was first settled by Highland Scots who came to the Cape Fear Valley in 1734 seeking religious freedom.   The Town of Elizabethtown was founded in March, 1773.

Elizabethtown, the county seat, has a population of approximately 4,000 residents.  Down town offers canopied front family-owned shops for your shopping and browsing pleasure.  Several larger chain stores are available in nearby shopping centers.  Bladen County Hospital is located in Elizabethtown as well, offering full-service acute and emergency care for inpatients and out-patients.

White Lake, seven miles away has approximately 1,000 year round residents and about 200,000 tourists visiting the lake each summer.  The town was incorporated in 1951 and resort operation began back in 1901.

Quality education is provided through a county wide system.  Along with industry involvement, the "Partners in Education" program has proven to be a beneficial program in reaching excellence in education.  Baden Community College provides full time day courses, a two-year college transfer program, and continuing education for older adults.  More than 20 churches of most denominations serve the area.

Choice industrial sites, manpower and an abundant water supply make the area an excellent choice for industry.  Water is supplied by the Cape Fear River, one of North Carolina's Navigable waterways.

White Lake is a 1,200 acre body of water unlike any you have ever seen.  The "UNIQUENESS" is a white sandy bottom blessed with crystal clear water.  The water is shallow and ideal for swimming.  Labeled "The Nations Safest Beach",  White Lake offers excellent swimming, boating and water skiing.  In addition, the lake has an amusement park, arcades, mini-golf and a beautiful 18-hole golf course located between the Lake and Elizabethtown.  It is a choice resort area in southeastern North Carolina and one can spend an active and exciting day on the beaches or a leisure time in the deep cool shade.   White Lake is proud to be the home of the annual "WHITE LAKE WATER FESTIVAL."
